What you'll do
At Wessex Water, customer experience is at the forefront of everything we do. To help us build functional systems that improve the customer experience, we're looking for a Junior DevOps Automation Engineer to join our expanding team.
As a Junior DevOps Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for deploying product updates, identifying production issues, and implementing integrations that meet our customers' needs. You will work with Developers and Engineers to ensure that software development follows established processes and works as intended. The Junior DevOps Automation Engineer will also work alongside our Senior Engineers.
Duties will include:
- supporting resources for developing and managing builds, deployments, and configurations for non-production and production environments
- undertaking deployments using tools such as Azure DevOps pipelines and Octopus
- maintenance and configuration of source control environment, locally and in the cloud, predominantly Azure DevOps, although some legacy source control remains via TFS
- taking control of CI/CD Pipelines to automate and continually enhance our SSDLC, both on premise and in the Cloud
- maintaining and implementing industry best-practise for automated configuration, management and security
- participating in problem solving and troubleshooting for the assigned applications, functional areas, or projects
- integrating security scanning and testing into build and deployment pipelines, for example, Selenium, SonarQube, and conforming to OWASP standards
- collaborating with Project, Platform, Developers and Test teams to identify and resolve infrastructure, application, and testing issues
- administration of tools such as Azure DevOps, Octopus and SonarQube within the software development lifecycle
- proactively monitoring and optimising system performance and scalability for reliability.
What you'll need
You must: (or equivalent technology):
- be familiar with Agile and SCRUM methodologies, and waterfall to a small degree
- have experience in building and deploying C# .Net applications (both Core and .Net)
- have MS SQL experience
- have knowledge of CI/CD tooling such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Octopus, TeamCity or Jenkins.
It would be desirable if you have (or equivalent technology):
- experience working in DevOps or a similar role
- experience using cloud providers, preferably Azure
- experience with branching strategies such as GitFlow and GitVersioning
- knowledge of scripting languages (particularly Bash, PowerShell and Azure CLI)
- understanding of manual and automated testing and quality practices
- understanding of managing and configuring Windows Servers, including IIS
- the ability to multi-task to support engineering on multiple projects
- experience with infrastructure as code, BICEP / ARM / Terraform
- some knowledge of containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker)
- knowledge of distributed systems architecture such as Micro Services
- knowledge of load balancing and orchestration tools such as API management
- knowledge of active Directory, Certificate services, DNS, DHCP
- Microsoft certification or similar.
