Job Requirements/Description

A great opportunity is now available at the Bristol Composites Institute, working as a Research Software Engineer (RSE) for Composites. Embark on an exciting journey as a valued member of the Bristol Composites Institute (BCI), working alongside technical experts, including Prof. Stephen Hallett, a leading authority in Composite Structures, and the BCI Research Software Engineering team.

As a key member of the BCI research and software development team, you will play a crucial role in advancing the field. Your primary focus will be on the development of a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the BCI inhouse software, SimTex. A more user-friendly software capability will accelerate composite structure design and enhance manufacturing processes. Additionally, you will provide invaluable support to passionate researchers, guiding and collaborating with them on cutting-edge topics.

What will you be doing?

You will:

  • Develop a robust Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the SimTex software suite that predicts composites manufacturing processes, especially using textile preforms.
  • Contribute to cutting-edge SimTex finite element core solver that accelerates composite structure design and development while improving manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure software meets rigorous standards through comprehensive testing, complete documentation, and a clean, modular design.
  • Utilise expertise in packaging software into easy-to-distribute and easy-to-install applications.
  • Join a team committed to producing high-quality software and embracing technology transfer and effective dissemination.

You should apply if

You have:

  • Expert knowledge and experience of GUI development and research software engineering.
  • Mastery of key software development tools, including C++, Python and version control systems.
  • Experience with other programming languages, or a strong desire to learn them.
  • Proficiency in unit testing and documentation to ensure the development of robust simulation toolboxes.
  • A passion for exploring new technologies and approaches.

Why choose us?

Join a top-ranked UK research university, competitive pay, and flexible working arrangements. Benefit from attractive perks, a strong pension scheme, and access to development and well-being programs.
